Astronomy modification Oct 30, 2008 This light is really great for amateur astronomy--light weight, very sturdy, battery-efficient, a hole for a neck cord--except I find the red light a bit too bright to comfortably read star charts. My fix: squirt Household GOOP or a similar "clear" (translucent) silicone caulk / adhesive into the conical area. I filled mine about halfway. It dims the red LED's light and diffuses it for more even illumination. Also, the silicone waterproofs and protects the LED. You may wish to start with less than half and gradually fill until the brightness is just right for you.
As for the twist-on, twist-off, I leave it on for the whole time I'm outside at night. On a neck cord, it shines straight down and bothers no one. Clear skies!
Almost perfect... Apr 27, 2008 I used this light on a submarine for a few weeks before I lost it. The belt clip is not very secure and I would recommend a holster of some sort if you move around a lot with this light.
Bright and Compact, but needs a on/off switch Apr 18, 2008 Provides a Bright short range Red Light, allowing you to see in the dark without blowing out your night vision. The flashlight is well made, the clip is removable, witch is good because I didn't need it. There is a hole on the end for a lanyard (not included). The flashlight is small and light, the only thing I can say I don't really like is you have to twist the end of the barrel to turn the light on and off, and I would prefer a regular on/off switch. If you need a compact red flashlight, this is a good one.
Excellent night nav Apr 07, 2008 Got this light for my search and rescue gear, and so far its been one of my favorite lights--small, durable, and long lasting, and great for night treks and bushwhacking when I don't need my bigger white lights on. Small enough to fit just about anywhere, lanyard is handy.
cool little light Apr 06, 2008 I work nights as a sheiff's deputy, and this little thing fits very nicely in my pocket. When I use it, it doesn't destroy my night vision. It's not powerful enough to throw a real "big boy" beam, but its great for closeup work. Can't go wrong for the price.
