Well made multi-tool Dec 03, 2008 This is by far the most popular multi-tool on the market and should last for many years of use. It may be a bit tight when you first purchase it, but a little gun oil will loosen it up.
Some have commented about the quality of the new Wave to be less than the original, but I would say that this is still a very well made tool. I like Gerber as well, but prefer the more solid feel of Leatherman tools.
The one handed, quick access to the main blades is one of the best features of this tool. The metal is ribbed on the serrated blades release point to differentiate it from the straight blade.
I do not use the included nylon sheath, but it seems of decent quality.
Good multi-tool Dec 01, 2008 Very good multi-tool, this is actually the second I own because I lost the first one. But it is a very nice multi tool with everything you need. The only gripe I have with it is that sometimes when you try to open it the ends of the pliers get stuck with the scissors. It is pretty annoying, but other than that, its a great tool to go with everyday.
My new favorite sidekick Sep 28, 2008 I deployed with this tool. This tool has just enough of what I need to do the little jobs I need it to do without all the extra, unnecessary bells and whistles. It's my new favorite sidekick.
Quite good enough, but not perfect. Sep 12, 2008 I'll use my Leatherman anywhere from several times a day to constantly, depending on which hobby I'm working on that day. I've had this one for several months now, and so far I like it quite well.
I do find it a bit odd that there is a small rust-colored spot on one of the blades, when it is billed at "100 percent stainless steel". The last Leatherman I used I had for _15 years_, also stainless steel, but never, ever, had anything like rust colored spots. While this makes me question the materials used, and thus possibly the maker's honesty or accuracy in this area. Still, for me this is not causing ANY problems, just questions.
I should make clear that my 4-star, not 5-star rating, is *purely subjective*, based on my strong desire for 2.5" blades most of the time. I will occasionally find myself attending college courses and visiting or crossing other school grounds. And here in California knife blade longer than 2.5" are a felony on any school grounds without prior official permission.
So as great as this Leatherman is in an absolute sense, I'm simply not able to casually take it with me to my machining (!!!) class, or even to pick up kids at school, like I freely can with my old, smaller Leatherman.
I'll be happy to change my rating if someone can turn me on to fully compatible replacement blades in a shorter size!!
But I reiterate, this is a very good product! I'm very pleased so far. But I think Leatherman's entire line would benefit greatly if they offered some variants one could use to replace the defaults. Or perhaps someone will hit me in the head and call me ignorant - with proof. :)
Leatherman Tool Aug 31, 2008 The tool arrived on time and appears to be very high quality. I have not used it, rather I keep it in my car in case its needed when traveling.
