Effective and as advertised Jul 11, 2008 This is not a bad product and I have found it useful in some strange places. I have to say that I like it most of all as it fits in my back pocket so when I am on the ladder and need to make a quick "adjustment" to a piece of siding, it is easy enough. I have been using it mostly for cutting the curved cuts around my half light windows. Works well on large radius circles as well as small radius. I do use a file on the cut afterward to clean it up a bit. As another reviewer said, you can cut straight lines with it, but there are better ways to do that job.
Worked as advertised, but barely needed it Jan 19, 2007 This product worked as advertised, but we barely used it on a large Hardie siding job. A circular saw (with Hardie blade), a jigsaw (with Hardie blade), and a drill (to get the jigsaw started) are all you really need to do a clean and efficient cutting job even for weirdly shaped penetrations, etc.

Works ok, but could use some engineering to make it great Sep 19, 2006 The product does what it is supposed to - it works just like the cutters used for tiling. You take repeated small bites to get to the cut line. That being said, the product should look to get some additional improvements to make it better.
* Have an option for square cuts and corners (replaceable teeth? or another product?). The rounded corners on this item are nice for round pipe penetrations, but having a square blade would help out more with the straight notches needed for square openings like windows and vent hoods (much more common than round penetrations).
* It's medium gauge sheet metal construction limits its strength in taking larger/full bites of siding. A thicker material and tougher teeth would help you to cut your holes and notches faster.
* Depth of its bite could be increased. Although this impacts the leverage you need to generate, having another 1/2" or 1" would be very handy when dealing with 7" reveal siding. This is not as important for smaller reveal siding.
* The lever design requires one to open up the pliers very wide to reach in for a deep cut - see its photo. The product would be better if it had a compound lever design where one didn't have to open it up so much to get the deep bite.
* The return spring is too stiff/strong for my liking. Doing a couple nibbles to even out a small cut isn't bad, but doing repeated nibbles to clean up a score and snap notch for a window can quickly lead to hand fatigue.
With all that being said, I still recommend having the tool for fiber cement siding as I there isn't a better alternative that I found - I just hope someone can make a better one.

Saves a lot of time and makes clean cuts May 03, 2004 I'm in year three of residing my house with Hardie Boards. This is the first year that I've used this product. It is well-worth it. I don't know what alternatives are out there, but I was previously making custom holes the "hard way" - a utility knife as a scribe, an old chisel, a drill, and even my fiber cement shears. But THIS tool beat them all. I was able to very cleanly, quickly, and with no breaking, make 1/2 circles to join pieces around my radon pipe, and it took seconds to make some good notches where wires/cables exited my house (and I didn't want to pull, drill, and re-run them). This tool is also useful for square notches, but you'll never get the corners too square - a knife, etc., would still be necessary. This gets five stars from me for the convenience it's added.
